Defendu
The famous SMP self defence system devised by W.E.Fairbairn. Through many years of research and direct links to practitioners and members of the Fairbairn family, C.O.D.A. is proud to carry on the legacy of Defendu.
It has been said by some that Defendu is a Combative system. In some respects it is. There are virtually no blocks / parries; most of the moves are pre - emptive. But at the end of the day, Fairbairn himself stated many, many times that Defendu was for self defence.
Though some of the techniques arguably found their way into some WW2 syllabi, there are subtle differences - differences in the techniques themselves, in the way they were taught, and above all else, in the mental approach to the training. The intention behind the methods was slightly different for WW2 than it was for the SMP.
ShinnoShindo Ryu Jiu Jutsu
One of the systems (believed to be the first) that Fairbairn studied whilst in Shanghai.
Shinnoshindo Ryu was introduced to Britain by Fairbairn a few years after he formulated Defendu.
C.O.D.A. Does not teach Shinnoshindo Ryu, and never has. However, it has links to the original UK training group, and does borrow some influence from the system.
