PETER ROBINS : A PROFILE. Peter Robins was born in 1947 in Upton Park in the East End of London, at a time of desperate post World War Two hardship and struggle. The pounding of the docklands and surrounding area of East and South London by the Luftwaffe is well documented, as is the tough nature of the inhabitants of those regions of the UK’s Capital. As did many from his part of London, Peter’s family moved into the adjacent county of Essex, when he was aged just eight. As a teenager, he grew up in the era of the infamous “Mods and Rockers”, and in the late 1960’s he found a way to channel his natural spirit by starting to train in Karate. For a short while he trained in Shotokan, only to move on to the hard contact style of Kyokushinkai and the rarer taught Mushindo. He then moved on to arguably his favorite Karate system, the Okinawan Uechi – Ryu. It was whilst studying Uechi - Ryu that Peter began to take a supplementary approach to some of his training, realising that as good as all these systems were, there was something else he needed. In early 1984, having commenced his research into Fairbairn and Sykes, he joined the EBNS (European Bujinkan Ninjutsu Society) under Bo – Munthe and Sven Eric Bogsater (both Sweden), Peter King (UK) and Brian McCarthy (Eire). He continued until early in 1989, before disbanding his East of England Bujinkan Dojo. After a couple of years of “unstructured” training with two friends (previously his Bujinkan students, Dave Smithers and Paul Child), a joint decision was made to form a training group for regular sessions.
